OG Classical Matwork

Matwork is the first step in your Classical Pilates journey.

The 6 month, 180 hour Classical Matwork Teacher Training Certification will equip you to teach in a real-life group environment.

This pathway is here to inspire YOU as you are drawn to the original Classical Method while honouring normal human variation (we’re all different).

Are you already certified or simply passionate about deepening your Pilates practice? Our 100-hour Bridging program welcomes both certified teachers and enthusiasts who want to immerse themselves in the Classical Method. Your journey ends with a certificate of participation to celebrate your growth - perfect for those focusing on their personal practice.

Module Overview

  1. Teach Classical Matwork from a Pre-Pilates to Advanced level.

  2. Develop a clear understanding of Pilates History, Philosophy & Key Concepts.

  3. Address normal human variation and develop knowledge of how to build to and advance any exercise for individual requirements.

  4. Work within occupational health and safety guidelines unique to teaching Matwork.

  5. Understand basic anatomy and breathing mechanics related to working with low risk clients.

  6. Introduction to the studio apparatus.

  7. Communicating with participants using appropriate language and techniques.

  8. Teaching to the new person.

  9. Managing client relationships.

  10. Programming for all levels of class.

  11. Injuries, pregnancy and scope of practice as a Classical Matwork Pilates Teacher.

Hours can be completed at an approved studio of choice.

Course duration:

6 months

Hours Breakdown Full Certification: PTT 180

  • Observation & Study: 80 hours

  • Self-Practice: 50 hours

  • Co-teaching & Teaching: 50 hours

Hours Breakdown Full Certification Matwork & Reformer: PTT 250

  • Observation & Study: 90 hours

  • Self-Practice: 80 hours

  • Co-teaching & Teaching: 80 hours

Hours Breakdown Bridging Program/Enthusiast: PTT 100

  • Observation & Study: 60 hours

  • Self-Practice: 20 hours

  • Co-teaching & Teaching: 20 hours

Certification Process

Following your Matwork content sessions (weekends or intensive), you will be required to complete 50% of your remaining practice hours at an approved studio. You can do this with a studio in a country of your choice.

Here is what you will need to do:

  1. If you will be completing your hours at a studio other than Go Slo Studio, Denmark Pilates or Aniko Pilates, we will provide a Studio Mentor Approval form for you and your studio to complete.

  2. Send monthly feedback and video updates on your progress for Slo Method educator feedback.

  3. Make sure you are taking note of your practice hours in your training manual.

  4. When you are ready OR your certification timeframe is approaching, you will be required to film a final video for assessment and feedback. You can also do this in person at Go Slo Studio, Denmark Pilates or Aniko Pilates.

  5. Once your final assessment has been approved, you will be issued with a Certificate of Classical Matwork (Pilates Teacher).
